SERENA WILLIAMS fought back to beat Shahar Peer 3-6, 6-2, 8-6 to reach the semifinals today and then attacked the "haters" who revel in her failures, writes Chris Jones.

The American took two hours and 24 minutes to defeat the 16th seed from Israel as she continued to prove her critics wrong after an injury-wrecked 2006.

Williams, the world No81, said: "The negativity is just from haters. I guess it's a big story to write negative things about me as opposed to positive things. Or when you're down, people sometimes try to kick you. It's like people get pleasure out of talking bad. Does it make them feel good when it makes me feel bad? I guess it does.

"I have never said anything bad about anyone and what people say won't get me down. No one knows what I went through off the court. No one knows anything that I've been through. …
