ACS REORGANIZATIONAL MEETING SET FOR THURSDAY

An organizational meeting for the American Cancer Nassau County Unit Committee will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday at First Coast Community Bank in Fernandina Beach.

The unit last year voted to reorganize itself as a committee to allow flexibility on the part of volunteers as to how they will be structured and for more interested community members and supporters to become involved.

The meeting will focus on setting up leadership and committees but also will provide volunteers with an overview of the mission of the American Cancer Society and local goals.

For more information, contact Unit Executive Director Christine Hoffman at (904) 249-0022, ext. 111 or e-mail christine.hoffman@cancer.org.

COUNCIL ON AGING

The Nassau County Council on Aging needs volunteer drivers for its Meals on Wheels program.

Drivers are needed to deliver meals to homebound elderly clients one day per week in Callahan, Fernandina Beach, Hilliard and Yulee.

For more information, call Susan Parry at 261-0701, ext. 117, or Debbie Davis at ext. 115.

The council also is seeking volunteers for Telephone Reassurance Volunteers. Volunteers will call on clients at set times to check on clients' well-being. If the phone is not answered, the volunteer will call three relatives or neighbors who check to see if the client is safe.

Volunteers are needed to assist with two fundraisers in February - a golf tournament at North Hampton on Feb. 19 and a motorcycle Poker Run on Feb. 24.

Approximately 15 volunteers will be needed for each event.

For more information, call Frances Bartelt at 261-0701, ext. 102, or e-mail volunteernccoa@yahoo.com.
