Alex Salmond v Tony Blair Ground: Prime Minister's Questions Kick-off: Midday

ALEX SALMOND, leader of the Scots Nationalists, whipped out his sgian dubh after David Cameron avoided the topic that every MP is gossiping about - the police probe into cash for peerages. Salmond slyly referred to Tony Blair's friendship with George Dubya. "But isn't the more relevant association with Richard Nixon?" he burred. "Is there a cover-up in Downing Street?" Blair seethed and challenged him to argue the trickier case for Scottish independence.

"The reason he does not raise the Scottish question is because he doesn't dare," charged Blair. But Salmond had the last laugh, miming the PM being dragged off in manacles.
