Lee Clark today revealed his disappointment after Newcastle United failed to seize on a good opportunity to take three points at his old club Fulham, (writes Lee Ryder).

The Newcastle coach made an emotional return to Craven Cottage and was well received by both sets of fans as he took his place in the dug-out to line up against his old boss and close pal Chris Coleman.

The Geordie boy spent six years in the capital before returning to Tyneside to start a career in coaching at St James' Park but his journey home was an unhappy one on Saturday night.

Gallowgate hero Clark told the Chronicle: "The manager has already said we were flat.

"The performance in the first half suggested there was nothing in the game and at half-time Fulham were there for the taking.

"We didn't step it up and we feel it is three points lost.

"If we'd got a goal after the break it would have raised us but it happened the other way and Fulham got the boost they needed to go on and win the game. …
