Charlton boss Iain Dowie is determined not to become Chesterfield's third successive Premiership scalp in the Carling Cup tonight.

Coca-Cola League Two strugglers Chesterfield, beaten by two stoppage-time Gillingham goals on Saturday, have already knocked out Manchester City and West Ham.

Charlton, still at the foot of the top flight despite keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet in their win over City on Saturday, go to Saltergate with Dowie (pictured right) insisting: "If we can match their heart and soul we can go through."

He added: "I know they have taken some big scalps already and are a well-disciplined, well-organised side ( just like their manager Roy McFarland was as a player. But we are in good heart after our recent run ( and if we go there with the right attitude and spirit we will be all right."

Dowie will not be resting key players. He went on: "It will be a very competitive game, but this competition is not a distraction from our league fight. …
