The story of a young man who shot to stardom through his quest to find love was broadcast in a Channel 4 documentary last night.

Vince Peart, of The Firs, Alston, Cumbria, created one of the biggest news stories of last summer when he advertised for single women to come to his home town.

Men outnumber single women 10 to one in Alston, and Vince, 23, and his friends wanted to do something about it.

So they launched the Alston Moor Regeneration Society and set up a website to persuade women to move to the town.

Vince said: "One of the reasons I agreed to work with Patrick is because I had seen his previous films and knew he would be honest and show the real picture of what I have been trying to do for Alston.

"Since the film, I have become the youngest parish councillor in Cumbria and I am currently trying to set up a youth club for the town.

"I never imagined when I set up the website that it would get to this stage, all I wanted to do was find a girlfriend."

But sadly, despite a relationship earlier this year with a girl from Nottingham, Vince is still searching for love. Last night there was a mixed reaction from fellow-villagers on Vince's crusade with some women in the town saying they had been offended by his comments that there weren't enough of them and that they were ill-educated. …
