The festive season is upon us and one of the most important people over Christmas, is Father Christmas. Karen Wilson gives you the low-down on where to find him

Santa's Grotto at the MetroCentre is open until Sunday, December 24. Santa Claus will be in his Grotto in the Garden Court where you can visit him every day for free and collect your free Christmas gift.

The grotto is open Mon-Friday 10am- 8pm, Sat 9am-7pm, Sun 11am-5pm. On Christmas Eve the Grotto closes at 4pm so Santa Claus can dash off with Rudolph to deliver the presents.

There is a variety of gifts which children can select from depending on their age groups ranging from colouring books, paint sets, bracelets, pencil cases and puzzle sets.

This year Toys R US is offering personalised letters from Santa. You can order a special letter to be delivered in time for Christmas. The personalised letter arrives in a special envelope from Santa together with a magical Christmas sticker set, making the experience even more fun and rewarding for the children.

Produced by children's story writers and illustrators, the letter features beautiful new designs and is suitable for all age groups. Cost pounds 2.99, Including free UK delivery.

Father Christmas was due to arrive at Fenwick in Northumberland Street, Newcastle, on November 23 and will be there during normal trading hours. It's free to see him and the children who see him will get a little button badge. The grotto will be next to the Terrace restaurant on the third floor.

Santa is at The Bridges Shopping Centre, Upper Market Square, Sunderland, until Christmas Eve.

From November 10: Mon-Wed and Fri-Sat 10am-5pm, Thu 10am-7pm, Sun 11am-5pm.

From December 11-23 he's there Mon-Fri 10am-7pm, Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 11am-5pm. Christmas Eve 10am-3pm. It's free to see Santa but if you want a gift prices start from pounds 3.50. The grotto is in Central Square.

Catch Santa at Cowells Garden Centre in Main Road, Woolsington, on December 2 and 3, 9 and 10, 16 and 17 and 23 and 24. It's free to see him between 10am and 4pm.

Santa's in his grotto in Prince Bishops Shopping Centre in Durham. Opening times: Thurs 11am-5pm, Sat 10am-5pm, and Sun noon-4pm. Visit Santa and get a gift for pounds 3, or have your picture taken with him for pounds 2.50. Do both for pounds 5. He'll stay until Christmas Eve.

On December Sundays 3, 10 and 17 visitors to Stephenson Railway Museum will be able to meet Santa Claus before he gets too busy preparing for the big day.

Visitors will be invited to climb aboard the Christmas train where Father Christmas will greet the children with a present and a storyteller will entertain everyone with festive tales. Afterwards there will be craft activities and free refreshments. …
