A Christmas carol dedicated to Alan Shearer will be played at Newcastle's match against Tottenham today.

Hallelujah Shearer, based on Handel's classic, has been recorded by the choirs of Hexham Abbey and will be played before every home game during the festive period. The lyrics were written by Newcastle United supporter John Oxnard.

Attack on girl

A 14-year-old girl was attacked in Rothbury in the area known as Jacob's Ladder, which runs from Croft Road to Station Road in Rothbury, at about 7.15pm on December 15.

Garage robbed

A robber escaped with cash from the Fina garage on New York Road, New York, North Tyneside, at about 4.30am yesterday. No-one was hurt in the raid.

Savage beating

A man's jaw was broken when two others attacked him on Boldon Drive, Boldon Colliery, South Tyneside, at about midnight on December 16.

The 47-year-old was punched to the ground from behind and repeatedly kicked in the head when he was down. …
