Letter: What Do the Public Want from Police? Voice of the North

IN Tuesday's Journal, Name & Address Withheld explained that both her husband and herself, who are a law abiding family, had been burgled in November ("Is Northumbria Police letting us down?" Voice of the North, February 19).

Her son, who does tree work, had most of his equipment stolen and had to buy new gear. She went on to say that she has not had any word from the police to say if any of the property has been recovered. She accepted that as a sign of the times.

What she could not accept was the fact her son was stopped on the A1 at Alnwick earlier this month and had to prove the chipper he was towing belonged to him.

I was the officer who stopped her son.

She fails to mention in her letter that there was no number plate or lighting board on the chipper, which made me suspicious.

She fails to mention that her son told me he had just bought the chipper that day but he had not been given a receipt of purchase, which made me suspicious. …
