A 15-year vision for the future of Stockton town centre went before the public today to get the views of residents, businesses and visitors.

Stockton Council is developing an action plan to guide the regeneration of the town centre. The plan identifies key areas for development which are consistent with the objectives and vision of the Stockton-Middlesbrough Initiative.

These areas include the northern, eastern and southern gateways, Boathouse Lane and Riverside sites. As well as regenerating key sites, the action plan also looks at ways of revitalising the town centre. These include creating performance spaces for events and extending trading hours in the early evening and Sundays.

Celebrating the town's heritage is key and the plan looks to enhance the 'Queen of the North' market.

Councillor Bob Cook, Stockton Council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "There are some very exciting and forward-thinking ideas to regenerate the town centre, while at the same time celebrate our wonderful and rich heritage. …
