A teenager accused of supplying Ecstasy to a 15-year-old boy who died from an overdose the same day has admitted drugs possession.

Jamie Dawson, 19, of Gilpin Road, Thornaby, was charged with supplying Ecstasy to two people on March 25 last year.

They included Josh Butler, 15, who died that day.

An inquest heard previously he took an excessive amount of the drug, seemingly unaware of the consequences.

At Teesside Crown Court yesterday, prosecutors accepted Dawson's plea to simple possession of Ecstasy. He was told he would not go to jail for this offence, and the supply charges will be stayed.

Prosecutor Tina Dempster said it was a case where people had pooled their resources to purchase drugs.

Deborah Sherwin, defending, said Dawson, who was 18 at the time and had no previous convictions, had made an attempt on his own life and was taking anti-depressants.

Judge David Bryant said there may be issues that needed addressing "given the tragic consequences of this matter". …
