Newcastle United keeper Shay Given was left fuming at AZ's penalty-kick which led to the Dutch side being handed a lifeline in next Thursday's UEFA Cup second leg in Holland, (writes Alan Oliver).

With Manchester City, United are the only team in the Premiership not to have conceded a penalty this season, and they were angry when Swiss referee Massimo Busacca pointed to the spot midway through the second half when he judged Steven Taylor had handled.

Given ( making his 61st European appearance for United ( saved Dembele's spot-kick, and captain Scott Parker put in a great tackle to stop the substitute scoring from the rebound.

But the ball fell to Danny Koevermans, who slotted home to make the score 4-2 and set up an intriguing second leg in the DSB Stadium in six days' time.

Given emerged from the United dressing room to say: "It's frustrating saving the penalty, and them still scoring.

"Scott Parker got a terrific challenge in, and I felt we were going to get the ball away, but it's ricocheted to the guy behind, and he's scored. …
