More than 20 years after last performing in Stockton, a former chart-topper was back to promote live music in the area.

Feargal Sharkey was invited to the town to officially launch the new Green Dragon Studios.

Featuring a new recording studio and music rehearsal suite, the facility is expected to benefit musicians and bands from across Teesside.

During his Seventies heyday with The Undertones, Feargal sang about Teenage Kicks and later hit the top spot as a solo artist with A Good Heart.

He is now chairman of the Government's Live Music Forum, and his focus is challenging local authorities to support the promotion of live music as a way of regenerating an area.

He said: "Good quality, properly equipped studios are invaluable to young bands and artists starting out.

"So it's fantastic that musicians in Stockton will now have somewhere proper to rehearse.

"Our pounds 5bn music industry is fuelled by unknown groups performing in the back room of pubs. …
