John Beresford has urged Newcastle United to "have a go" against Manchester City in front of the Geordie faithful tomorrow.

The ex-Toon favourite began his career with Man City but feels the current Citizens side is "poor" and offers Newcastle a great chance of picking up maximum points and getting their season back on track.

Bez knows all there is to know about entertainment after taking part in the Kevin Keegan team of the 1990s that wooed the world of football with an exciting style of play.

And with the Yorkshireman now on the entertainment scene off the field of play on the talk-in circuit, Beresford has more than an inkling of the current feeling around the Tyneside pubs and clubs.

He told the Chronicle: "I've met a lot of people at talk-ins this week and, like me, they just want to see the current side have a real go at Man City.

"There is nothing to lose, it's not a cup game and we aren't getting relegated, so why on earth can we not just go for the throats of Man City ( who are a poor side? …
