Tory Backer Saves Local Museum with a I?1/22m Donation

APHILANTHROPIST has saved his local museum with a i 1/22 million donation.

Hedge fund boss Michael Hintze, one of the Tory party's biggest individual donors, was so concerned over the possible closure of the Wandsworth Museum, which he frequently visits with his wife and children, that he wrote out a cheque.

The 53-year-old has entered into a partnership with Wandsworth council which will not only secure the future of the museum but also double the size of the town's main library.

Mr Hintze, a former Australian army officer, said: "My wife Dorothy, my children and I have enjoyed our trips to the museum and we believe it to be a vital part of our local community. Over the years I have seen drastic cuts in the amount of government money being provided to local authorities. However, I feel it is crucial to maintain our local cultural heritage." The couple, who live in a large townhouse between Clapham and Wandsworth commons, are also prominent supporters of Trinity Hospice, the Old Vic theatre and the Vatican Museums. …
