ARSENE WENGER has revealed that Robin van Persie will probably not play again this season. The Arsenal manager says the Dutchman might have recovered from his broken metatarsal in time to play the last few games of the season but believes it is not worth the risk.

"We have spoken to the doctors and they told us the longer you keep this kind of fracture without playing the less chance you have of a recurrence," said Wenger.

"So if he can only play one or two games we will not take the gamble. It is likely he will be out for the season."

Van Persie has been on the sidelines since fracturing his foot scoring the equaliser in the 2-1 victory against Manchester United on 21 January.

Arsenal take on Liverpool in a game that could be decisive in the race for third place.

Anfield has been a happy hunting ground for Arsenal this season.

They won 3-1 in the FA Cup and, four days later, secured a famous 6-3 triumph in the Carling Cup. …
