MULL THIS OVER

JOE DIRT ROBBED IN JACKSONVILLE?

You heard in Stir a couple of weeks ago that a boy from Georgia holds the title "Best Mullet in Jacksonville." We didn't think it could be true, so we asked readers to submit their own mullets in our contest, and we think we've found a rightful winner.

John Stewart, a maintenance worker at the Five Points Theater building on Park Street, e-mailed to let us know that he took part in the event won by 9-year-old kid Dakota Russ of Kingsland at the Monster Jam truck rally in late February. Stewart said his Mississippi Mudflap was at least 8 inches longer than his nearest competitor.

"The DJs said I had the best mullet they'd ever seen," Stewart said. "The other contestants freaked out when they saw my mullet. The only reason he won is that he was 9 years old, with a baby mullet at best. I am 44 years old with thick hair past my butt."

But Stewart said he was happy at least with the acclaim his mullet drew after the event.

"Three people stopped me on the street the very next day. They said, 'You got robbed, man!' They didn't even know me, just recognized the hair," he said. "I must have been stopped 30 times in the next month."
