New-look room is a gift for youngsters

A refurbished room to stimulate the senses is transforming lives at a Teesside special school.

Pupils at Redcar's Kirkleatham Hall School are enjoying their new-look sensory classroom after refurbishment funded by pounds 5,000 from the Abbey Bank.

The room is now a stunning mix of hi-tech fibre optic ceiling tiles, mirror tiles, colour wheel rotator, solar projector and hi-fi equipment.

The room was designed and installed free of charge by Darren Gunn and Neville Laverick, parents of pupils with special needs at the High Flyers early support nursery at Thornaby.

Darren is chairman of the Thornaby unit's children's centre support group, but also has links with Kirkleatham.
