The Very Special Mum Who Puts a Smile on Her Little Girl's Face

Behind young Megan Farrell's happy smiles is a very determined mum on a mission.

It drives 36-year-old Julie to help her little daughter battle through to a better life.

And thanks to her dedication, 18-month-old Megan who has cerebral palsy, is making amazing progress

"Julie will always be the mum of the year to me and Megan," said dad Mike, 38, of Larch Close, Marton, Middlesbrough.

The tot's life hung by a fragile thread after she was born 15 weeks early at just 1lb 8oz. Her twin Liam was so ill he didn't make it, but Megan battled through.

She had operations for bowel and heart surgery and a brain haemorrhage left her with cerebral palsy. In spite of everything, Megan is making amazing progress ( thanks, says Mike, to her mum's dedication.

For 36-year-old Julie and Mike the past months have been heartbreaking as they grieved over the loss of one child and battled to save another.

"But things are getting better and you can see Megan improving," said Mike, who has nominated his wife for the Gazette's Mum of the Year.

"Her progress is down to Julie who gets up early to make sure she has as much physiotherapy every day as possible."

The loving mum works to prevent her daughter's muscles seizing up and to keep them supple. …
