Our cup joy

Footballing youngsters from Stockton celebrated a special anniversary year with European glory.

Despite facing numerous challenges such as financial problems and arson attacks at their Durham Road base, Primrose Hill Under-12s have managed to clock up 15 years of junior football.

And to celebrate, bosses decided to accept an invitation to play in the Wassenaar Cup in Holland.

It cost pounds 7,000 to ferry the youngsters to the tournament ( but their cash was well spent as they beat both Belgian team HSV ECamp and Dutch youngsters Vernburch FC to clinch the cup.

"It was a great success," said manager Graham White, 48. "The football was brilliant and the lads loved every minute of it.

"We were getting beaten at half time in the first game and the other team was quite rough with us. The lads were all worried and I said to them 'the only way to beat them here is to push and score goals. And we beat them 4-1. …
