Martis Could Come Back to Quakers

Star central defender Shelton Martis could be on his way back to Darlington.

The Gazette understands that the 24-year-old Dutch ace is considering a stunning U-turn by returning to Quakers from Hibernian, which he joined at the start of the season.

The Scottish giants snatched him, via a transfer loophole, which enabled them to take him for a nominal fee because he was switching countries.

But even though Martis has played 26 games for Hibs, including Saturday's 3-3 draw with Rangers, he is understood to be one of several players who are considering leaving because of an alleged fall-out with Hibs manager John Collins.

Darlington manager Dave Penney is believed to have spoken to the player's representatives.

If Penney can bring Martis back it would give the club a massive boost.

Ex-Boro midfielder Micky Cummins said last month that the biggest single factor in Quakers failing to win promotion this season was the loss of Martis.
