A French student, who left her homeland to brush up on her English while she studied, is here to stay after landing a job with a North-East firm.

Yolande Gaertner, 24, did so well on her work experience with Newcastle project managers Hall & Partners that she is now working for them to help fit out the pounds 4m Radisson hotel in Durham.

"I am part of the Hall & Partners team responsible for the fit-out of the hotel, with a budget of around pounds 2m," she said. "It is giving me great experience, working on programming, organising and procuring all of the operator's equipment. This involves a wide range of items ( everything from TV sets to catering equipment and cutlery ( which have to be procured, delivered and installed on site."

She first started working for Hall's Tyneside operation on work experience while studying for her BSc (Hons) degree in building project management at Northumbria University in Newcastle thanks to a special partnership with the Ecole Boulle in Paris. …
