England captain Michael Vaughan looks certain to miss at least the first Test against West Indies in a fortnight's time after suffering a broken finger playing for Yorkshire against Hampshire yesterday.

Vaughan, who has missed his country's previous 15 Test matches due to other injuries, has suffered a fracture of his right middle finger after being struck by a delivery from Hampshire seamer Stuart Clark.

The injury is likely to keep Vaughan out for three to four weeks, making him a near-certainty to miss out for the first Test at Lord's and also for the second Test on his home Headingley ground starting on May 25.

Yorkshire have gained a narrow lead of 52 at the Rose Bowl. In reply to Yorkshire's first innings total of 299, Hampshire were all out for 296 with Michael Brown top scoring with 105.

At one stage the hosts were coasting at 158 for one before a brilliant catch down the leg side by keeper Gerard Brophy turned the match. …
