Brown in Threat to Sue over Tevez; Brown Legal Action Threat

Article excerpt

FORMER West Ham chairman Terry Brown is threatening to take legal action against the Premiership club as the row over the transfers of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano intensifies.

Representatives of Charlton, Sheffield United, Wigan and Fulham are set to meet this lunchtime at Mohamed Fayed's Harrods headquarters in Knightsbridge to discuss the possibility of suing both West Ham and the Premier League.

They are all unhappy the Hammers were only fined [pounds sterling]5.5million and not docked points for a breach of transfer rules when signing the Argentines.

Now Brown is considering action of his own after being sent a letter terminating the contract he signed when he sold the club.

Standard Sport revealed on Monday Brown would have his [pounds sterling]1.2m salary withheld and his right to have eight seats in the directors' box at Upton Park removed.

Brown is furious he is being blamed by Eggert Magnusson, who took over at West Ham in November, for the problems surrounding the deal for Tevez and Mascherano. Brown's former managing director Paul Aldridge has also already threatened legal action against the Premier League, sayinghis reputation has been "besmirched" by their inquiry. Despite the row over the deals and a turbulent campaign, Tevez (below) today revealed he could still be a West Ham player next season. "There is a possibility I could stay," he said. "It is a case of sitting down with the directors of West Ham to sort out a few things but certainly there is a chance I could stay with the club." Any agreement would depend on West Ham avoiding relegation

and that is where Tevez's focus is. Ahead of tomorrow's clash with Bolton at Upton Park, he said: "The fine and everything surrounding it is something for West Ham and the lawyers to take care of. My only concern is football.
