A major regional community event is to get under way via a huge party at Guisborough Football Club.

The all-action music festival - dubbed the Party on the Pitch - is being organised at the ground on Saturday, May 26.

Club chairman Sandy Mackenzie is already delighted with the enthusiastic response to the event which is designed to raise funds for the youth and club teams.

"Guisborough Town FC, a once great club which graced a cup final at Wembley in 1980, was on the verge of extinction," he said.

"But a takeover in November 2005 rejuvenated the club's fortunes."

A crowd of more than 5,000 is expected on May 26 to enjoy music, food stalls, bars and picnic areas.

Chris Profitt, club spokesman, said: "If we get anywhere near that number, it will ensure the healthy development of the club.

"We have teams from 10 years upwards and three senior teams and all will profit from the event."

Mr Mackenzie added: "A common bond has developed throughout the town and East Cleveland - pulling people together from all walks of life to help create a brighter future for the area's youth population. …
