How disgusting to read that a man can chop off a living dog's head to kill him and then get probation from Judge Charles Arnold. This should not be tucked away in four paragraphs on an inside page. Judge Arnold ordered the man to pay the Jacksonville Humane Society $250, pay court costs and receive anger management treatment. How outrageous! This slap on the wrist will do absolutely nothing, and it has been proven that people who abuse animals continue on to seriously harm children and adults. Where is the outcry from the public? Judge Arnold, you should be ashamed to have swept this under the rug.

CRACK DOWN ON BULLIES

Prosecutors need to have the stones to one day, when investigating a school shooting, charge people known to have bullied the school shooter as accessories to the crime. If people back in Cho Seung-Hui's high school who bullied Cho could be identified, they need to be tried for accessory to the murder. They know what could happen by harassing people. That would put a stop to it real quick.

TOO MANY GUN ADS

Please tell me how "Shooters" is allowed TV ads with all the murders, illegal gun sales, etc., occurring all over Jacksonville, much less the whole country - plus the gun sales? Shouldn't this be illegal?

USE OF FCAT CRIMINAL

It is criminal to use one instrument to measure student achievement, namely the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, which should be used for diagnostic purposes only. Students are no longer taught grammar, reading aloud or understanding what has been read, calculating numbers or using the human brain. It is sad and a crime what has happened to the educational process. Children are different and should be allowed to function on their own levels. Teachers are required to teach the test only. That's all they do every day.

NOT A WISE MOVE

The decision by Duval County School Superintendent Joseph Wise to have the school principals write essays outlining proposed solutions to the dismal FCAT scores, without blaming disadvantaged students or a lack of money, is like the surgeon general of the United States directing the American Academy of Dermatologists to write a position paper on malignant melanoma without blaming sunlight. …
