RISE AND WHINE

THIS FAKE BAKER IS NOT PLEASED (PLUS, SHE'S ORANGE)

I blame my dermatologist. She's the one who scared me with photos of leathery, elephant-wrinkled skin spotted with cancerous moles the last time I went in for a standard checkup.

This, she warned, was the eventual end of a lifetime of sun tanning.

Terrified, I slathered on the SPF 45 and headed to the nearest drugstore to find the next best thing - sunless tanner. Unsure which brand to try, I bought three bottles.

Here are my product reviews. From now on, I'm sticking to sizzling in the old-fashioned sunshine.

-- Dove Energy Glow Daily Moisturizer - Totally greasy, this stuff seems to take forever to dry (which means it'll be about 10 minutes between lotion and actual dressing). The color, natural at first, developed a tangerine, streaked quality at the end of the week. Funky smell, too.

-- Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer - Great, non-greasy formula. This stuff smooths on and dries within seconds. Unfortunately, I am just as pale as I was before I began slathering the stuff two weeks ago. False advertising, thy name is Jergens.

-- Neutrogena Summer Glow Daily Moisturizer - Formulated specifically for the face, this light lotion is wonderful before applying cosmetics. No clogged pores, plus the stuff packs a powerful punch with a built-in SPF 15. But my facial tan? Zero. Nothing. For $12, I at least expected orange!

BULL'S EYE?
