Woman Cut in Downtown Park; Witnesses Say She Was Sitting on a Bench and Was Attacked

Article excerpt

A woman was listed in critical condition Saturday after being cut with a knife by another woman in downtown Jacksonville's Hemming Plaza, police said.

Police were called to the scene about 3 p.m., said Sgt. Rick Hike of the homicide unit. A suspect was arrested. Neither woman's identity was released.

Several witnesses said they saw the victim sitting in the park when the assailant ran up to her and sliced her throat and arm.

Hike said he didn't know of a possible motive.

Witnesses said they believe both women were homeless, but Hike could not confirm that.
