The head of Standard Life has insisted the company is not anti-union as he addressed its first agm since floating on the Stock Exchange.

His comments came as Amicus representatives outside the meeting in Edinburgh demanded formal recognition of the union and protested at cuts to the staff pension scheme.

Kwik Save to shut 79 stores

SUPERMARKET chain Kwik Save is to close 79 stores ( a third of its estate (in an attempt to secure the future of the business. Union sources said several hundred jobs would be lost in the closures, but the specific stores closing have not yet been announced.

Connoisseurs take stake

BEER lovers from an investment club run by the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) have taken a pounds 240,000 stake in Preston pubs operator Honeycombe just before a takeover by Liverpool brewery Cains Beer Company.
