Barratt Sees Share Price Fall 31p

Glaxosmithkline was one of the largest fallers in the FTSE 100 index during the opening hour of trading yesterday.

Shares fell by 19p to 1273p following concerns over Avandia and prior to a Congressional hearing on the drug on Wednesday.

On a positive note, over the weekend the pharmaceutical firm reported that Tykerb, the breast cancer drug, had performed well in recent trials. Glaxo reported data which revealed that Tykerb, in addition to chemotherapy, increased progression-free survival in the first-line treatment of certain women with advanced breast cancer. Throughout the day the shares regained some of the lost ground, closing down 1p at 1291p.

Go-Ahead announced yesterday that it had purchased 60,000 of its shares for cancellation at 2614.5p each. The shares closed the day at 2617p, gaining 7p.

At the end of April the UK rail, bus and aviation services company reported that its full year results will be ahead of the management's earlier expectations. …
