A TEESSIDE student has made history at his university by becoming the first man to join a course studied by another 120 women.

Joe Jenkinson, 24, from Yarm, is studying for a degree in Learning in Families, Schools and Beyond at Northumbria University.

He was the first man to sign up for the course and has since been joined by another man.

Joe is a former Egglescliffe School pupil and currently coaches pupils in sport at Durham Choristers' School.

He was recommended to study for the degree by colleagues.

Joe said: "I was the first man to sign up for the course and have now been joined by another male student. I'm also one of the youngest on the course and it has a lot of advantages.

"I have become great friends with many of my fellow students and I get really well looked after and mothered.

"I work at Durham Choristers' School as a sports coach, working with children aged from four to 13.

"Most of the teaching staff are women so I'm quite used to being in female company. …
