Shame about Mogga

Article excerpt

Byline: Eric Paylor

IT was a great shame for Tony Mowbray that he was unable to take West Brom back into the Premiership at the first attempt.

I've got the greatest respect for Mogga. We go back a long way and he will be gutted that he has suffered more heartbreak at Wembley.

Mogga has been brought up the right way. He learned a great deal from watching Bruce Rioch at Boro, and has gone on to be a successful coach and manager.

He has a team at West Brom which contains a lot of flair, so it is disappointing they won't be gracing the Premiership next season.

They played the better football in the play off final, but Derby County got the goal and won the day.

I would have liked to see Mogga take West Brom back up because I think they're a good footballing team.

We saw in the cup ties against Boro that they can hold their own against Premiership opposition.

However it wasn't to be, and now we read that the team might have to be broken up to help pay the bills.

Obviously there are a few players that Gareth Southgate might be interested in bringing to Middlesbrough.

One player I do really like is the centre forward Diomansy Kamara.

He's very quick and he scores goals, and he is already proven at top level.

If Mark Viduka moves on this summer then Kamara is a possible replacement.

But he's a completely different type of player to Viduka and if we were to go for Kamara we would have to change our playing style.

Viduka holds the ball up, but Kamara doesn't play that way, and neither does Yakubu, so Southgate would have to change our attacking style.

One thing we must have is two experienced goalscorers up front for the start of next season.

We also need a right sided player and Zoltan Gera is another West Brom player that Southgate is likely to show interest in.

Southgate wanted him in January but for one reason or another a deal was not struck. …
