STEVE Gibson is planning to secure another "spectacular" signing for the Boro fans over the next few days.

Boro are closing in another big-name international striker to follow Turkish star Tuncay Sanli into Teesside.

If negotiations are successful for the new - so far unnamed - forward, then it will also open the door for Boro to listen to offers for Yakubu.

Portsmouth have apparently made a fresh inquiry in the hope of taking the Nigerian back to Fratton Park.

The key to Yakubu's future is whether Boro can complete an agreement with this new striker.

In the short term, talks with the new target may be slow to get kick-started, because Boro are a little stretched over the negotiating table.

Boro chief executive Keith Lamb flew to Istanbul to complete a deal for Tuncay on Tuesday, and then moved to the Turkish city of Trabzon to try to snap up a second Turk, midfielder Gokdeniz Karadeniz.

Boro had agreed a fee in advance with Trabzonspor for Karadeniz and had expected the signing to be a formality.

But Lamb discovered that the goalposts had been moved by the time he reached Trabzon.

Turkish champions Fenerbache, who had already been stung over losing Tuncay to Boro, had suddenly moved in with a bid for the 27-year-old Karadeniz.

As a result the terms of the deal altered, and Lamb found himself back at square one from a negotiating point of view.

In addition, there are media reports in England that Newcastle and Blackburn are now showing interest.

Karadeniz appears to prefer a move to the Premiership, but the last thing Boro want to happen is to become embroiled in an auction for the player. …
