We said it was going to be about tweaking the squad and I am not sure it is over yet. It is great to sign Ben Haim. There was a lot of competition for him and he is player we and Jose believe will strengthen us for next season. It will be great for the squad and Tal has demonstrated he is a Premiership player so we expect him to hit the pitch running.

He has shown for a long period that he has got the right approach and he wants to join Chelsea. The club tried to sign Ben Haim in January but refused to pay Boltons [pounds sterling]3million asking price for the Israel international as his contract was entering its last six months.

Chelseas lack of defensive cover became a bone of contention in the stand-off between head coach Mourinho and owner Roman Abramovich.

Ben Haim, who was at Bolton for three years, is delighted to have finally completed his move.

He said: Signing with Chelsea is a dream come true but the decision was tough because I have enormous respect for Allardyce, who nurtured my career.

I feel fantastic to be part of this amazing club. If you ask every player, they want to play for Chelsea, for that team. They are one of the best teams in the world so Im very happy to be part of that. …
