FRONTIER AIRLINES BEGINS SERVICE TO DENVER TODAY

The first nonstop flights between Jacksonville and Denver will kick off today as newcomer Frontier Airlines begins service from Jacksonville International Airport.

The daily flight will originate in Denver at 11:55 p.m. and arrive in Jacksonville at 5:15 a.m. The return flight will depart Jacksonville at 6:10 a.m. and arrive in Denver at 7:50 a.m.

Jacksonville was the largest unserved market from Denver for Frontier, said company spokesman Joe Hodas, making it a natural addition for the 13-year-old low-cost carrier. Although Jacksonville is served by a number of low-fare companies, non of them fly nonstop to Denver.

Frontier is known for its flights to Mexico, a country it serves from 11 U.S. cities. Although Jacksonville will only serve Denver when service starts, other cities, such as Nashville, Tenn., have seen flights to Mexico added soon after Frontier moved in.

"For any new market, that is an option we look at," Hodas said.
