LUCKY Joe Thompson is singing from the rooftops after winning thousands on a pounds 2 scratchcard.

The self-employed roofer's seven numbers scooped him pounds 77,000 on the Flamin' Hot 7s Scratchcard from The National Lottery.

The 46-year-old, from Highfield Avenue in Forest Hall, North Tyneside, made a spur-of-the-moment decision to buy the scratchcard when he popped into his local shop.

He says he couldn't believe it when he won the cash and now feels on top of the world.

He added: "I play the lottery occasionally, and I'll sometimes buy a scratch-card.

"I left the store and started scratching off the numbers in the car. I couldn't believe it when I realised I had won the top prize.

"I double-checked it and even returned to the shop to ask the assistant if it really was a winner."

Joe, an ex-paratrooper, has had his own business for 15 years. He does not plan to give up work.

Instead, he wants to invest some of his good fortune and has also decided to splash out on a new car and treat himself to a holiday. …
