FROM the North East to the Far East - Carly Telford's off to Hong Kong for the Women's World Cup.

She'll jet out on Sunday to start preparing with the England squad for next month's tournament.

After months of intensive training the 20-year-old goalie from Stanley, County Durham, finally found out she'd made the country's 21-woman squad last week.

She said: "When I got the call up I felt such relief and excitement to make the squad. I was crying and so was my mum, it was a mad few minutes.

"I've trained so hard and didn't want it all to be for nothing. I have played for England in European Champions but nothing on this scale.

"Growing up the biggest dream I could have was to play for England in a World Cup."

Carly found her love of football as a youngster playing at Oakey Park in Stanley before reaching trials and being picked for a Chester-le-Street team.

By the time she was 18 she'd signed for Sunderland Women's team and went on to join Leeds at the end of last season. …
