THE future's bright for gifted footballer Louis Johnson who's been snapped up by Middlesbrough Football Academy.

At the tender age of six, scouts were clambering to sign up the Easterside lad who's been playing football since he could walk.

Now nine years old, the striker at Marton FC and title-holder of overall top scorer in the TJFA looks set for sporting stardom.

Dad Eric told Grassroots: "He was scouted at the age of six and was offered to go to Middlesbrough FC Development Centre because he was too young for the academy.

"Scouts from Sunderland and Middlesbrough were also interested in him.

"I explained to Louis that there was no pressure and if he wanted to play in the league instead of joining, it was his decision."

Louis, a Liverpool FC fanatic, chose to play for Middlesbrough, where coaches daubed him "mini Viduka", and continues to train four times a week.

Eric said: "The whole family is proud of him.

"He will have access to the region's best training and hopefully will one day play for the young England team. …
