NOW in its 25th year, one of the longest-running proams in the country, the North East Rankings, breaks off at 11.00 on Sunday at Gateshead Snooker Centre.

This is the sixth event in this season's series of 12.

With a total prize fund of pounds 300 (subject to entries), the pounds 6 entry fee covers entry to the pounds 250 handicapped best-of-five frame main event and free entry for preliminary and first-round losers to the pounds 50 plate competition.

THE best run from the region's six entries who travelled to Leeds Northern SC for the inaugural Paul Hunter English Open Championship came from Guisborough's Anthony Parsons (pictured).

After getting his campaign under way with a 5-1 victory over Jon O'Leary, Parsons produced his best win by beating world number 18 Joe Perry 5-4 with breaks of 32, 66, 76 and 90.

Having progressed to the next round with a 5-3 defeat of Brett Miller, and leading Alex Davies 4-1 in the quarter-finals, Parsons lost the four remaining frames and the match 5-4. …
