Football: Owen's Goal Is to 'Find Sharpness'

MICHAEL Owen is determined to bounce back from his failure to score against Germany by spearheading England's quest to qualify for Euro 2008.

Newcastle striker Owen, still not back to his best following the anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him out of action for more than a year, missed two clearcut chances as England slumped to their first defeat at the new Wembley on Wednesday.

But the striker who hit a hat-trick for England against Germany in the famous 5-1 win in September 2001 is hoping he will be much sharper by the time they take on Israel and Russia next month.

He said: "It was disappointing that we lost the game. We had some positive parts of the game but in general to lose at home was a disappointing night.

"I would not say I was happy about my performance at all. I missed two chances and I am frustrated about that. …
