A GIRL of three survived a shooting at a house in which three men werekilled and two women were seriously wounded.

Police said today they are hunting two young Asian men for the targeted attackon a family in their semi-detached home in the commuter town of BishopsStortford, Hertfordshire.

Two of the men who died were named locally as taxi driver Keith Cowell, 52, andhis 17-year-old son Matt. The other man was 33. They are each said to have beenshot in the head in a gangland-style execution.

Neighbours said a car screeched to a halt last night outside the house and oneman got out, went inside and opened fire before running back to an accomplicein the vehicle. Hertfordshire police said they were described as in their lateteens or early twenties of slim to medium build. The pair were last seen makingoff in a small red car towards the M11. The police helicopter was scrambled anda massive manhunt is under way.

The two injured women are aged 54 and 23. They are under armed police guard inhospital.

Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: The three males were pronounced deadalmost immediately. The women were treated rapidly and were taken to hospitalwith serious injuries. The little girl was carried out of the house and she wasfine. Neighbours said the girl is called Courtney, the daughter of Mattsgirlfriend Clare. Mr Cowell lived in Plaw Hatch Close with his son and wifeNicole. The couple also have a daughter Charlotte who is in her early twenties.

There was confusion over the fate of the familys pet Staffordshire bull terrierGorgeous. One witness said it had been shot but other reports suggest it hadbeen unharmed.

Police said it was too early to speculate on the motive but Hertfordshire ChiefConstable Frank Whiteley said it was believed there were links between themurdered men and the men being hunted.

One possibility being investigated is that the shooting was drugs related. MrWhiteley said: I want to reassure the residents in Bishops Stortford thatofficers are doing everything possible to trace those involved in what is adisturbing, but targeted incident.

Neighbour Richard Guy, 19, said: I heard this big bang and that was followed bya car driving off really quickly. …
