It's 108 Days until Christmas but Festive Fare Is on the Shelves; Garden Centre in Extra-Long Yuletide Build-Up

YOU'VE only got three and a half months to get in your Christmas shopping - and staff at one garden centre are getting into the Yuletide mood.

Shoppers at Heighley Gate garden centre near Morpeth can now buy Christmas trees, cards, seasonal wrapping paper and crackers. Staff at the centre have spent the past few days setting out displays of the seasonal products - with late summer sun blazing outside.

Bosses at the centre say there is nothing unusually early about their decision.

Managing director Chris Lishman said the centre's official launch into the Christmas shopping season will be on October 20 and the work being done now is just part of the preparations for it.

"It takes six to eight weeks to prepare for Christmas, because there is a lot of work to be done in laying everything out," he said.

"We don't particularly want to get Christmas stuff out at this time of year. It is purely down to the time it takes to do the work that we are making a start now. …
