Police Briefs; Arlington Man Injured in Traffic Accident on Southpoint

A 23-year-old Arlington man was seriously injured Aug. 25 when his car spun into the path of another vehicle in the 6800 block of Southpoint Parkway, police said.

Police said Samuel Nyaen's 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was headed through a curve in the road around 10:45 a.m. when he lost control, and it slid passenger-side first into the path of a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 22-year-old Arlington woman. The impact shoved the Malibu over the curb to come to rest on the sidewalk, its right side caved in by the impact. Police estimated the Malibu was doing about 60 mph in a 40-mph zone.

The victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville by a city rescue unit, and was upgraded from critical to good condition earlier this week. The driver of the Camaro was taken to St. Lukes Hospital a few blocks away by a friend.
