FOR a decade, thug Terence Cotcher waged a campaign of abuse against his ex-partner.

Wherever she fled, Cotcher tracked her down, making violent threats and harassing her family.

But now Cotcher, 38, of Crawley Road, Wallsend, has been given one of the North East's longest-running antisocial behaviour orders.

The 10-year Asbo secured by Northumbria Police bans him from trying to see or communicate with the woman, her two children, her mum and her sisters.

Wallsend Neighbourhood Sgt David Guthrie said: "This Asbo demonstrates our commitment to using all means to effectively tackle domestic abuse.

"The lady and her family have suffered years of threats, violence and intimidation and we are determined to help this family by using the law to protect them from further harm.

"The family have been courageous in helping police over a significant period of time to enable us to gather sufficient information to obtain this order. We are pleased the court has taken the unusual step of granting such a long-term Asbo."

Cotcher started a relationship with the woman 10 years ago.

Their relationship, described by the victim as violent and abusive, broke down several times, with the couple spending as much as 18 months apart on one occasion before it ended in November 2005. Cotcher was consistently involved in intimidation, assaults and making threats against her and her family. The woman lived in fear of him and even spent periods in a women's refuge, but Cotcher would threaten and harass her family to find out where she was.

The victim called the police on dozens of occasions afraid for her safet y.

A panic alarm was installed at her home by officers due to Cotcher's history, and they also put in reinforced glass in a bedroom window and reinforced her bedroom door.

He also harassed people at Silver-line Taxis in Wallsend. …
