WASHINGTON Legends are starting to hit form in the Premier Division.

A cracking encounter at Albion Street saw the Legends attack Fiddlers Three down the right wing in the opening minutes, Michael Thomson and Andrew Thomas linking well.

Fiddlers closed Washington down well and scored after only two minutes following a mix-up between Downey and Thomson.

Legends responded with a superb solo effort f rom captain Storey. Legends edged in front just before half-time with Kris Vipond slotting home after a scramble.

Fiddlers levelled on the hour through Crowshaw and, Paul Donnelly scored their winner with a penalty 10 minutes from time.

Legends then faced Allerdene, who had defeated Felling Leam Rangers 3-0 in midweek.

A brace from Steven Lish was enough to steal the points off the high-flyers in a 2-1 win. Dunston Social recorded 7-2 and 2-0 wins over Last Orders and Greencroft respectively, while Victoria continue to lead the pack with convincing victories over Blue Star (3-0) and Dunston Excelsior (2-0).

Bird Inn made it a bad week for Last Orders, defeating their fellow new boys 4-1 while Tindal and Smailes were on target in their 2-2 drawwith Barley Mow Inn.

In the First Division, Steps ground out a fine home win over the Thomas Wilson.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes, Mark Croan nodding in at the back post.

John Kelly's header from a corner crashed off the crossbar soon afterwards, and this let-off seemed to spur the home side on, with a sweeping move from left-back to right wing bringing an equaliser with a cool finish.

In the second half, neither side created many clear-cut chances, and with 15 minutes remaining Steps took the lead when a ball through the right-hand channel was neatly dispatched past the unfortunate Lewnadowski, making his first start of the season in goal. …
