Football: Emre Says Sorry after Press Attack

NEWCASTLE star Emre was today forced to make a public apology after losing his temper in Turkey's 3-0 win over Hungary in Istanbul, (writes LEE RYDER).

The Toon midfielder - whose country's participation at Euro 2008 is far from certain -lost the plot following the first goal on Wednesday night.

He headed towards the Press box before unleashing both hand signals and verbal abuse towards the Turkish media.

Emre is thought to have been angered by criticism directed towards Turkey coach Fatih Terim, who was under fire after a 2-2 draw with Group C minnows Malta.

However, Emre was also understood to be angered by reports linking him with a return to Galatasaray.

Quotes attributed to the player were sent around the world and sparked speculation that he wants to quit St James' Park for the Turkish giants.

Emre did have a hand in two goals on Wednesday, but his enforced apology rounds off a bad week after he returned from international duty with a knee injury. …
