GRAHAM Rowntree believes England still have enough fight to prove their World Cup doubters wrong despite the humiliation of their 36-0 defeat by South Africa.

England's assistant coach insists it is only a matter of confidence and says that they can beat Samoa on Saturday and Tonga a week on Friday to get their World Cup hopes back on track.

Rowntree said: "It's not satisfactory - we've got a physicality issue to deal with.

"South Africa were very physical in that breakdown area.

"You can win a game by getting that battle right. We'll endeavour to get better at that, full stop.

"But confidence is everything in this game. This team is just striving for that one result, that one game to get that confidence. Winning is the only way to get it."

Rowntree, a formidable scrummager for England and Leicester in the past, also denied that the squad was too old to defend their world crown.

"The effort is there," he said. "The last game has gone and we're looking forward to the next one. …
