NEW evidence will demolish the case against Kate McCann, it was claimedthis afternoon.

Sources close to the family released details to explain how Madeleine's DNA gotinto a car hired by her parents 25 days after their daughter went missing on 3May.

The forensic evidence led to Kate and her husband Gerry being named formalsuspects by Portuguese police.

But the Evening Standard has been told that the evidence is flawed and theMcCanns would be cleared if the case came before a Portuguese court. Familysources said: . At least 30 people connected to the McCanns, including bloodrelatives, used the Renault Scenic before police seized it to gather forensicsamples.

Madeleine's belongings were transferred in the boot of the hire car, whichcould have left her DNA there.

The belongings included her sandals which experts have told the family willinclude traces of DNA left from her sweat. A source told the Standard today:"What people have got to ask themselves is just how many people were associatedwith that vehicle over a 10-week period. "How many family, friends and campaignworkers, how many blood relat ives, how many drivers? "I know of at least 30people being associated with that vehicle in the relevant period." The sourceadded: "People also need to consider what was carried in that car for entirelyinnocent reasons. These are all areas that will provide the innocentexplanations. "When viewed as a whole by any rational person these reasons atbest raise fundamental questions about the reliability of any so-calledevidence and at worst render it totally useless." Madeleine was six days shortof her fourth birthday when she went missing from the Algarve resort of Praiada Luz.

T h e family's new spokesman Clarence Mitchell said any suggestion that theMcCanns had harmed their daughter was "as ludicrous as it is nonsensical". …
