A MAN was found stabbed to death in a frenzied attack in the flat he shared with a pal.

The 32-year-old victim, named locally as Chris Black-lock, is thought to have suffered multiple stab wounds in his home in Cardonell Street, North Shields.

Police were alerted in a phone call and arrived to find the man's body at 9.50pm yesterday. Murder squad detectives were making inquiries in the street today for clues to any disturbance which may have happened on the premises.

A 31-year-old man, believed to be known to the victim, was arrested and is being questioned in custody at North Shields police station.

Forensic experts were looking at the scene of the stabbing. It is thought the sustained attack on the victim was as a result of a row which erupted.

Det Chief Insp Steve Barron is heading the murder inquiry. Anyone who may have information about events at the flat last night is asked to call police at North Shields.

The victim was taken to North Tyneside hospital and later died of his injures.

It is not known if a weapon has been recovered.

The stabbing is the latest in a number of knife crimes across the region this year.

Neighbours woke to police activity. The street was cordoned off and officers stood guard at the crime scene.

A post-mortem will be carried out later today.

Neighbour John Gray, 73, said: "I live above the flat where the incident took place. I was watching TV last night when I heard banging on his door.

"I saw the police but didn't know what was going on. I never heard anything beforehand and I was shocked it was a stabbing that turned into a murder.

"I used to live in Blyth and moved from there because the area got too bad. When I lived there only doors away a lad stabbed a woman and he was jailed. …
