Van Man Jailed for Road Attack; Disqualified Driver Rammed Couple's Car

A MOTORING menace was jailed after ramming another driver in a road-rage attack.

Terrified Michael Mordey reversed his car down a street to get away from van driver Lee Mitchell.

But Mitchell gave chase and rammed into Mr Mordey's car, slamming it into a wall.

Inside the car, Mr Mordey, 19, and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Kerry-Ann Wallis, escaped injury.

Disqualified driver Mitchell, 22, of Hawthorn Road, Ashington, admitted charges of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop after an accident, having no insurance and failing to report an accident when he appeared at Bedlington law courts.

Claire Paczko, prosecuting, told magistrates that Mr Mordey and Miss Wallis were in his Ford Escort car in Gordon Terrace, Stakeford, when a white Transit van came towards him.

Mr Mordey realised that the driver was Mitchell, who had launched an attack on him three years earlier.

Mitchell was convicted of common assault for the attack on Mr Mordey, said Ms Paczko. …
